Amaechi under fire over anti-Niger Delta moves

Former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has come under serious fire over several decisions that he is taking and moves he has made that are not in the interest of the majority of people from the oil-rich Niger-Delta.
Amaechi who is the Minister of Transport under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government is viewed as an enemy of the region over the roles he played in the build-up to the election that saw Muhammadu Buhari emerge President.
He was accused of using Rivers State’s fund in sponsoring the APC candidate, against then incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan who is from the Niger-Delta, just like him.
The former governor is also being fingered in some quarters as contributing to the sacking of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, whose popularity among the Rivers people keeps soaring as a result of the projects he has been able to execute just within six months in office.
The latest action that is being condemned is the controversial revocation of the Maritime Academy in Delta State.
A Niger-Delta Social Crusader, Eze Basil on Saturday, was furious with Amaechi’s role in the revoking. He wrote:
“Amaechi should have a rethink on his anti-Niger Delta stance
Let us for the benefit of doubt believe that the Hon. Minister was misled by his Agents and Privies into believing that the Maritime Academy in Delta State was still at the feasibility study level, hence the cancellation of the project.
And now that pictorial evidences clearly show that construction works at the institution are almost at 100% completion, may we respectfully, subtly, religiously and call on him to rescind that decision.
Amaechi maybe making a big mistake, administratively, socially, religiously and politically and the consequences may outlive him, if he goes ahead to cancel that project.
