Followership of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is growing and is expected to become more popular than the English Premier League (EPL) in no distant time, pioneer Chairman of the League Management Board (LMC), Nduka Irabor has predicted.
He expressed this during an interactive session with sports writers in Kaduna on Sunday.
According to him, three years back, Nigerians were not interested in anything to do with Nigerian league, but now, the story is changing.
“Three years ago, the LMC followership on the social media was just less than 1,500 but today, we have over 25,000 followers and the numbers keep swelling,” he said.
He said it was wrong for some people to still have the notion that the stadia are empty during league matches, stressing that fans are beginning to identify with the league.
Irabor appealed to the Nigerian media to stop emphasizing foreign leagues and contribute to the growth of the home league by writing positive developments within the industry in he country.
