Abduction, conversion of Christian girls has been on for long – CAN

ese oruru The General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Musa Asake, in an interview with PUNCH has criticised the forceful marriage and sexual violation of 14-year-old Ese Oruru and other teenage girls in the northern part of Nigeria expressing disappointment in the act that he said has been going on for long in the North.
Rev. Ashake said: “It is an unfortunate situation. This has been going on in the North. In fact, our Christian girls are abducted but nothing is done about it. It is so sad that while we are praying to live in peace, another side is not showing a sign of peace. I don’t know where it is in the religion that teaches that they can take someone’s daughter, convert her from Christianity to Islam and marry her (off). If that is religion, then it is very unfortunate”.
patience-paul23It took the efforts of Governor Aminu Tambuwal for 15-year-old Patience to be reunited with her parents on Saturday.
Ifeoma-Nichodemus-N-parentsNews also broke on Saturday of another case of an abducted Christian teenager in Zaria, when her parents cried out to Sun Newspapers about her abduction which took place since 2009.
Similarly, news also broke on Saturday of another case of abduction of another Idoma girl, Miss Ejeh in Zamfara State.
It is worrisome that most political and religious leaders are silence about these discoveries, which should be condemned out rightly.
More worrisome is the defending of the alleged abductors by mainly Northern Muslims.
