National Youth Games: Chairman Directors of Sports appeals to states, FCT on early release of funds

A passionate appeal has been made to all the 36 states governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to urgently make funds available for the participation of their athletes at the upcoming National Youth Games which begins at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, in less than 10 days from now.
The appeal was made by the Chairman, Directors of Sports Forum, Mallam Tunde Kazeem in an interview on phone, where he stressed that timely release of funds will help their representatives prepare better physically and psychologically.
Mallam Kazeem stressed that being a Games that is out to discover budding talents states and the nation stand to gain a lot from it if it is held successfully.

“I am appealing to the governors to ensure that money is released on time for Nigerian youths to converge on Ilorin and participate.
“We are getting feelers that some few states are yet to disburse funds to their participants. We have about 10 days to the commencement of the Games, which is strategically important to the grassroots development of sports in Nigeria,” he appealed.
Mallam Kazeem who is also the Director of Sports of Kwara State said that it is sad when most Nigerians lament the country’s poor performance at the recently completed Rio Olympics Games but shy away from contributing to grassroots sports development which is the only way to make the country dominate at international outings.
