As NPFL 2015/16 ends: How sure is it for Rangers?

By Chris Suleiman, Abuja

The curtain is gradually coming down on the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) season organised by the League Management Company (LMC) with two matches left to be played. It has been a very exciting season with many intriguing and controversial moments.
The NPFL arguably the most competitive league in Africa has also, this season  presented its fans with yet another tense close of the season scenario. Unlike other leagues across the globe where with some number of matches left to be played league winners have already emerged. The NPFL has a history of dragging it to the final day.
The 2015/16 season is not different, with two matches to go, the top five teams still stand the chance of emerging champions mathematically.
Enugu Rangers top the log with 57 points, with Rivers United chasing behind with 56 points. Wikki Tourists garnered 54 points and Ifeanyi Ubah have amassed 53 points with. Lobi Stars following with 52 points.

It was only five points difference between the top club Enugu Rangers 57 points and  Lobi with 52 points and standing   fifth on the log. Two matches are left to be played which means six points are up for grab. If Lobi win the two matches while  Rangers fail to win any of their two matches, Lobi Stars may be champions if this postulation fall in place.

While IIfeanyiUbah need only a win and a draw in the event where Rangers fail to pick any point from the two matches and depending on the goal difference between. The two clubs. In the case of Wikki Tourist, winning the last two matches would summed up their points to 60points and for Rangers to win the league ahead of Wikki if this happened is for Rangers to win a match and pick a draw, but in the case of outright loss of the two matches, the Bauchi side would be crown champions ahead of the flying Antelope if they faulter in those last two matches.
Rivers United need just two draws and for Rangers to fail to pick any point in the last two matches, the party would be in Port Harcourt and not Enugu, but if Rivers United won their two last matches and Enugu Rangers do the same, the table  will still stands as it is today with the Flying Antelope  been crown champions.
From close observation, Enugu Rangers however seems to be the most consistent team this season, they look determined to break the 32 years without a major title jinx. And Coach Imama tutored side seems to have their eyes on the league title. They look very focus andmay not be  deterred by any mathetimatical assumption. It was however, noticed the last two matches should be played with utmost seriousness with less distraction while maintaining  the same tenacious spirit that brought thus far.
Wikki Tourists seems to have drifted away from what they have been chasing since last season. Coach Maikaba and his boys gave a similar hot chase to the title last season only for them to fall by the way side. The same thing seems to have happened to them this season and Rivers United are looking good. The Port Harcourt side have obviously profited from the merger of Dolphins and Sharks as the team look set to have something to cheer with at the end of he season.
On his part, the investment of oil magnet Ifeanyi Ubah on his club IfeanyiUbah FC when he imported some Brazilians and players from some neighbouring African countries in yielding result. InfeanyiUbah FC is a. League contender and may be competing next season in any of the of he continental competition his club standing on the log this season would be able to give him.
Lobi were unlucky last reason to finish with a trophy when they loss to Akwa United in the final of the Federation Cup. It was a poor season for Lobi last season with what look like the consolation that later slipped from them was the Federation Cup which Akwa United denied them, this season their league is comforting.
It was however a disappointing outing for six times Champions Enyimba and the team with the biggest support base in Nigeria, Kano Pillars this season. The two clubs despite parading array of stars both have nothing to show for it. Enyimba flooped at the continent and still go empty-handed in the domestic scene with the Federation Cup on their sight.
As stated earlier that the league present very intriguing and exciting moment yet riddled with controversial development leading some disappointing scenarios, which many pundits hoped would be addressed and hopefully would be  improved upon. Needless to dabble into the court case against the LMC by Giwa FC, and the subsequent drama  that follow. It was however an improved season as the trend these past three years. It is not yet there, more efforts needed to take the league the height Nigerians desire to see football get to, but the administrators alone cannot attain this goal unless he right kind of support come from every quarters.
