Lawmakers who entered the chambers on their normal legislative toga suddenly added a green muffler to their dressing, boldly adorned with the inscription, #I STAND WITH DOGARA#.
The heat of this wave of support however, overwhelmed the man in the eye of the storm, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin, who unceremoniously staged a walk-out of the chambers as the atmosphere becomes charged.
The controversy was sequel to a motion moved by the Chairman, House committee on Ethics and Priviledges, Hon. Uker Jev titled “Breach of privileges of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (The House); breach of the privileges of members of the House of Representatives; breach of the Practices, Precedents and usages of the House of Representatives and sundry acts of misconduct against the members and institution of the House of Representatives and National Assembly; breach of the provisions of the legislative Houses (Powers and Priviledges) act, cap. L12, LFN”, where he  drew the attention of the House to the campaign of calumny and denigration embarked upon by the former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin  against the leadership of the House in Newspapers, Televisions and social media.
Hon. Uker quoted Jibrin as saying that members of the House merely assemble to eat ground nuts, leak Tom Tom and stroll back to their offices.
According to Uker, “The above statements and publications are contrary to section 24 and 30 of the Legislative (Powers and Priviledges) Act. They are in breach of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, particularly the provisions on priviledges of the House and that of members thereof touching or seizing the Mace Order 10 Rule 5 (13) and (15).
Adding his voice, Hon. Aliyu Madaki who was constantly interrupted as he made his case, said that the allegations which were leveled against the principal officers of the House and by extension all the members of the House were weighty and insisted that they be judiciously investigated.
A melo drama ensued when the speaker suggested to Hon. Madaki that he can tender his resignation since according to him, the whole house has been smeared and part of the demands was that the speaker and all the accused officers should step down. At this juncture, he was sandwiched  with pieces of paper and biro from his colleagues to enable him tender his resignation.
The speaker, after lawmakers have exhaustively expressed their emotion, referred the matter to the committee on Ethics and Privileges.
As at press time, it is still unknown how the muffler came into the chambers.
