The group blocked the main entrance to the National Assembly on Wednesday numbering about 200 carried placards and banners with various inscriptions like: “Wants Reps to suspend Jibrin for his failed plot to destroy legislature”, “NASS and AG to suspend and prosecute Jibrin for blackmail, contempt of the House and operating foreign account, contract splitting and ill gotten wealth”,  “we want Jibrin suspended and prosecuted for violating section 24 of legislative Houses Act, Defamation and scandalizing the House” among others.
The leader of the group, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere said that they were in the premises of the National Assembly to submit their petition to the NASS leadership having submitted same to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Addressing the press, Ugochinyere who is the convener, coalition in Defence of Democracy and also the President, National Youth Council of Nigeria said that the group demands the immediate suspension of Jibrin for bringing the House to disrepute.
Part of the allegation they leveled against Jibrin reads, “Hon. Jibrin has been going about  violating section 24 (1)(a),(b) and (c) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Priviledges) Act to continue publishing and causing to be read writing reflecting on the character of the speaker of the House and Chairman of Committees of the House in the conduct of their duties as Speaker and Committee Chairman.
“He has also published statements containing gross, willful and scandalous misrepresentation of the proceedings of the House of Representatives with the aim of misleading the people”.
The group maintains that Jibrin cannot derail the parliament, while calling on all democrats to rise up and protect the institution of democracy just as they made the following demands from the parliaments:
“We demand that the House of Representatives immediately suspend Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin as a member of the of the House for the blackmail of the leadership and members of the House, bringing the House and scandalously reducing the standing of the leadership of the House of Representatives in the eyes of the ordinary citizens.”
The group further demanded that “The real identity of the owner of the Account on the bank statement allegedly identified as Abdulmumini Jibrin and whose address is listed as 453 Cranbrook Road, Ilford Essex, IG2 6EW” be exposed while also insisting that the true identity of the Nigerian Director of Berkley investment Limited identified as Abdulmumini Jibrin, born in September 1976 should be established to ensure Hon. Jibrin was not in contravention of the law as he did not declare his membership and directorship of Berkeley Investment Limited in his 2011 and 2015 Declaration of Asset Forms.
In his reaction, Hon. Akinlaja Joseph (PDP Ondo) said that Hon. Jibrin was removed as chairman House committee on Appropriation on the strength of the allegations against him, adding that it was the decision of the whole house but insists that it is only members of the House that has the powers to suspend a member after due process.
“I feel that if he has any appeal to make, he could have internalized it instead of trying to ridicule the constitutional powers of the National Assembly and bringing the National Assembly to disrepute.
“If he is going to be suspended, the House will debate it and take appropriate decision” Akilaja  said.
The group who were prevented by security operatives from gaining access into the National Assembly, later presented their petitions to the Speaker through the Sergent-at-Arms who promised to deliver same.
