National Youth Games: Athletes, officials urged to adhere to rules, regulations

The permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chinyeaka Ohaa on Friday urged all athletes and official to adhere strictly to the Rules and Regulations Guiding the Games in order to achieve desired national aspiration in sports.
Ohaa gave the advice during a welcome remarks at the opening ceremony of the 2nd National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State.
He said the National Youth Games was borne out of the desire of the ministry to place emphasis on talent identification with the aim of creating a pool of young and budding athletes that would be nurtured to stardom.
“This National youth games is a sporting events that balances sports, culture and Education.
“It is meant to build robust grassroots talent pool for the country, and to enhance and elevate sports globally and regionally.
He added that the games is also designed to encourage and strengthen national unity especially amongst youth who are the hopes for a better country.
“I want to urged all athletes and officails to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the games in order to achieve our desired national aspirations in sports.
He said the objectives of the games is to establish a standard programme for athletes succession from one generating to the other.
“The games is to educate and engage young athletes inspiring them to play an active role in their community development.
“We want to encourage mass participation of youth in sporting activities for the promotion of physical and health fitness.
“We want to reinvirogate national unity and collaboration of the youth.
He acknowledge the contributions of the university of Ilorin towards hosting of the games.
Ohaa also wished athletes and officials injury-free and successful participation in the games
