Grow Nigeria’s Automobile Industry by limiting importation of ‘Tokunbo’ vehicles, French Ambasador advises FG

    If well protected by limiting the age of used vehicles being imported, right taxation and other favourable policies, the Nigeria Automibile Industry will grow and create thousands of jobs in the country, the French Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Gaver Dengs has said.
    The ambassador expressed this when he led the Nigerian chapter of French Foreign Trade Advisory (CCEF) delegation on a courtesy visit to PAN Nigeria Limited, manufacturers of Peugeot brand of vehicles.
    On arrival, to receive them at hand were the MD/CEO Mr. Ibrahim Boyi with members of PAN Management team.

    According to a statement signed by PAN’s Head, Corporate Communication, Haroun Malami, the Ambassador stated this when he visited the company, adding  that huge potentials of the country’s automobile industry remain untapped.
    “Limiting age of importation of fairly used vehicles, right duties and taxation will protect and encourage the growth of the automobile industry, which has the capacity to create thousands of jobs in the country,” he said.
    On his part, the President Generale of CCEF Laurent Couderc described the visit as an interesting experience and exchange of ideas which need to be continued.
    Mr. Boyi made a brief presentation to the CCEF delegate at the Peugeot Learning Centre (PLC) hall on PAN operations and challenges in this period of economic down turn.
    The presentation provoked certain thought on the delegates which borders on access to forex, operational profitability and government policy.
    They were later taken round the assembly plant by the General Manager Industrial (GMI) Eng. Augustine I. Okolo.
    Included in the visit were Eric Maydieu of the PSA group, Jean Jacques JUNG,Jean Raoul Tauhin and Claude ABILY press counselor embassy of France in Nigeria amongst others.
