A member of the Upper Chember of the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to be ready to embark on mass protests against corrupt leaders, saying doing so remains the only avenue to signal public office holders that the era of seeking for political power to embezzle public funds is over.
The civil rights activist said that Nigerians should wake up to their responsiblity to contest and protest against any arm of government found to be corrupt as a demonstration to the political leaders that it would not be allowed to steal their money any longer.
Sani who represents Kaduna Central made the call at Chimchery Hotel Barnawa on Sunday night at a colourful ceremony of event marking the graduation of 40 young people sponsored for training on skills acquisition programmes in Kaduna State, as part of his constituency contributions to youth empowerment.
Sani noted that the present ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under President Muhammadu Buhari was doing everything possible to stem the tide of corruption fighting sincerely to bring the country back to track for Nigerians to take charge.
Comrade Sani, in conjunction with Magvoile Vocational Center, at the occasion titled “AVAIL 2017” said Nigerians therefore must stand up and fight those things that had led the country to its present unfortunate condition.
“The essence of being in office is to serve your people and your soceity, and we are committed to that.
“Nigerians must stand up to develop Nigeria, fight against all those things that led us to where we are today.
“Corruption has been the major problems of our country has suffered for many years back, and things are improving now as the message is very clear, that the time for which public officers means an opportunity to emass wealth is over.
“This is a call for reawakening, Nigerians must protest against any corrupt leaders, any arms of government that is corrupt,” Sani said.
While he commended Magvoile Vocational Skills acquisition Center, Senator Sani also promised to provide some grants and equipments for the 40 youth who undertook the skills according to their trades and skills, for their smooth takeoff.
Also speaking through a representative, Chairman of the occasion Mr. Elisha Mamman and the District Head of Kakuri, Shehu Tijani commended Senator Shehu Sani and organiser of the event for the empowerment of their youths and promised to support the initiatives, and pray God to protect them to continue their good work.
The Center, in collaboration with the District Head, Zazzau Emirate, Kaduna South Local Government Council, Kakuri, and other sponsors, showcases 35 designers, 191 models and 15 dance teams.
Beneficiaries drawn from across districts in Kaduna South LG Area commended Sani for the initiative, describing him as a future leader who is down to earth so sensitive to the plight of his people, particularly the youth and the vulnerable in society, urging him to keep his good work.
