Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido may resign from the throne to contest for presidency in 2019, emirate’s sources have revealed.
This is just as the daughter of Emir Sanusi, Hajiya Shahida, said penultimate week, that her father will gladly let go of the throne if it stands in the way of the truth.
This came as the Emir himself said people who thought he was troublesome would have a lot more to deal with when his children come on the scene, in a statement issued.
Speaking in Abuja during the first annual Chibok Girls lecture, Shahida, the daughter who represented her father at the programme, said the monarch had dedicated his life to the truth, and insisted that her father had always wanted to be the emir, but stressed that he believed in the truth.
According to her: “My father is not afraid of giving up his throne if it stands in the way of speaking the truth. Those who think that my father would keep quiet because he wants to hold on to his throne, I think they don’t know my father. I know that he has always wanted to be the emir of Kano but to him, if it comes between what is right, what his conscience tells him and choosing the throne, he would happily give up the throne. My father has always been a part of one controversy or the other and it’s normal for us. We are not scared anymore,” she said.
Emirate sources said in confidence that the monarch may resign if not dethroned.
According to to the source who was promised anonymity, Sanusi wanted to bear the record, but more interested in becoming president of Nigeria.
The sources noted dthat the Emir did a lot of things that would ordinarily earn him problems since assumption on the throne, but was ignored by the state unknown to them of his intension, adding that the he had so much, and wanted to try his hand at the presidency because, to him, opportunity has availed itself without much stress, as he is seen as a man of honesty, sincerity and transparency.
On whether there was insight to him that President Buhari will not re-contest, the source was silent, but promised to confirm.
