Kakuri United on Sunday won back-to-back the Walin Kakuri Ramadan Cup after beating YMCA football Club of Kakuri 1-0 through a penalty secured in the first half and scored by Annas Ahmadu.
Although, the YMCA FC displayed high skills in the keenly played match amidst heavy down pour, the efforts could not locate the net of the Kakuri United as the boys maintained impenetrable defence and ended the match in the favour.
The first and second runners-up went to Zifa FC and Kakuri All Stars respectively, Gadafi Mohammed of Conco FC emerged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition while Segun Joseph emerged the best referee in the preliminary matches.
Sponsor of the cup, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi (Walin Kakuri) said,the sponsorship of the cup was his modest contribution to his community as part of his corporate social responsibility.
He expressed happiness from the team spirit exhibited by all the participating teams, stressing that, the first edition produced talents some of whom are now playing in major teams in the country and outside the country, adding that more talents have equally been discovered in thi econd edition.
“I felt contributing through sports such as football will further help to foster unity and peaceful coexistence particularly among our youths. I intend to sustain the sponsorship Insha Allah” he assured.
The defending champions kakuri United FC went home with a giant trophy, set of Jersey and two footballs, certificates and twenty thousand naira while the runners up went home with a trophy, set of jersey, a football, certificates and ten thousand naira.
The first and second semi finalist went home with Certificates and a football while all the other teams that participated went home with certificates of participation.
