Contrary to the ultimatum given to Igbos resident in the Northern region to vacate the states by the Northern Youth, the 19 Northern States Governors on Friday, 28, July 2017 reassured all Nigerians living in the North of their readiness to protect their lives and property.
The Governors also constituted a high-powered committee to collate people’s views and comments on the state of the nation on the agitation for restructuring of the country with Alhaji Aminu waziri Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State as its chairman.
This formed part of their resolutions, contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting of Northern States Governors Forum held in Kaduna on Friday.
The Governors in the communique, reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, peaceful co-existence and rights of all Nigerians to reside and own property in any parts of the country guaranteed by the 1999 constitution.
In the communique, the forum called on the Southern States Governors to emulate the gesture for the peace and development of the country.
On the restructuring committee, according to the communique, it’s mandated to collect and collate views regarding the various agitations from individuals, groups and corporate organization in the Northern region on the restructuring of the country.
The communique added that the committee in addition will work within the confines of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, come up with acceptable tenable and sustainable position for the Northern region.
The forum however, advised Nigerians to respect the laws of the land and pursue their objectives within the confines of the 1999 constitution.
The members of the high powered committee include, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Gombe; Benue; Bauchi and Kaduna State as well as royal highnesses, the Emir of Kano; Zazzau, Gummi, Etsu Nupe and Gbong Gwom Jos are members and the Deputy Governor of Plateau State is to serve as the secretary of the committee.
