With the conclusion of the open trials to select players to represent Nigeria, the country is adequately prepared to face opponents in any competition.
President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen at the Murtala Square, Kaduna, shortly after the trials ended.
“Today NVBF can boast of U-17, U-19 and U-21. It was a good job and I appreciate everybody for a good job,” he said.
He expressed delight that the selection of players was professionally done by the technical committee.
“Selection of players not done on basis of names or who knows who, but it has been transparent and I commend the technical committee and coaches. As I am speaking with you, I don’t know who made the list or who didn’t,” he added.
He said volleyball’s international body FIVB was aware of the trials held and are happy about the development.
On how they raised funds for the camping, he said that in spite of financial crunch the federation was facing, they were able to go ahead and hold a successful trial.
“Somebody would wonder how we got funds but I tell you it is God and I can beat my chest let anybody come and ask us about U-17, we have it, U-19, we have it, U-21 we have it,” he emphasized.
The trials which started on August 1, lasted four days.
It was aimed at selecting players for Senior Women and U-17 boys/girls.
Immediately after the trial competition, the players that will be selected will move into camp in Abuja next week.
