The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf has appealed to Governor Nasir el-Rufai to as a matter of urgency, roll out empowerment programmes that will keep youth occupied away from crime and other vices.

He made the appeal on Sunday, when the Senior Special Assistant to Governor el-Rufai on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan visited the Kaduna NUJ Secretariat to commiserate with the executive and members.

Comrade Yusuf stressed that if the youth were engaged positively, it would have been difficult for selfish politicians to use them as thugs.

“I want to call on the Kaduna State Government to make youth empowerment a priority because if the youth are engaged, selfish politicians will not use them to cause problems,” he said.

He commended Governor el-Rufai for issuing a statement to condemn the attack promptly.

“On behalf of all members of Kaduna NUJ, I want to sincerely use this opportunity to thank you for finding time to be with us at this sad moment and at the same time commend your efforts particularly that sad Sunday, when you issued a statement on  time and assured us that perpetrators would be brought to book.

“Though I have called personally to thank you, this is to also state that the press release means a lot to the council and political leaders in the state,” he said.

The Kaduna NUJ Chairman pointed out that journalists are not political and do not belong to any political parties, hence the need for the state government to ensure that justice is served to perpetrators, as a lesson to others.

He assured of the cooperation of members of the council in publicizing the activities of government in the state, while appealing for compensation of members who suffered losses as a result of the incidence.
