The Certified Institute of Auctioneers of Nigeria on Monday inaugurated an eight man Executive for the Delta State Chapter with a call on the Federal Government to ensure that the bill of the institute which has already passed second reading is passed into law so that professionalism can be
introduced into auctioneering in Nigeria.

The inauguration of the Delta State Executive held at the PTI Conference in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area where the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Certified Institute of Auctioneers of Nigeria, Adeleke Hassan made the call.
“Government should ensure the statutory provisions, the Bill of the institute which is the Senate&House of Representatives should be passed into law to ensure that professionalism is introduced into auctioneering.”
Hassan noted that the lack of enabling laws to regulate the auctioneering profession in the problem in the country. Hassan pointed out that quackery is high in the auctioneering profession stressing that, the Institute has the structure to monitor the practitioners.
Hassan also stated that the institute has international affiliations like National Auctioneering in the United States as well as the Certified Auctioneer Institute.
He further stated that the institute has attended courses overseas and has ensured that the programme is brought to the University of Ibadan to train and certify Nigerians in the profession.
The Delta State Executive was inaugurated by a legal practitioner, Mr. S.G. Ediagbonuvie Esq on behalf of the Institute.
The newly inaugurated Executive which has Chief William Onakpoma as chairman will pilot the affairs of the Institute in Delta State in the next two years.
In his acceptance speech, Chief William Onakpoma vowed to face resistance in the profession pointing out that the law is behind him.
Onakpoma said they would remain steadfast and ensure that all Auctioneers in the state are handled professionally by competentmembers.
Onakpoma who admonished members to be morally upright also urged them to be ready train the trainers as well as new members to uphold the ethics of the profession and give a good image to the body to ensure widespread acceptance.
Onakpoma expressed delight on his appointment as the pioneer chairman of the Institute.
” I feel very elated to be among the pioneer executive of this institute. I am also proud to be associated with the array of experienced associates who will be helping me to run the Delta State Chapter.”
” On behalf of the Executive Committee members and the whole membership of this August Institute, I accept my election as the chairman of the Delta State Chapter.”
Other members of the newly inaugurated executive include, Ada Val Arenyeka, Vice Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Avworo,Secretary, Mrs. Blessing Ofeiritse Ogunyole, Treasurer, Arch. Paul Karika, Financial Secretary, Chief Uju Udeme, Publicity Secretary, Andrew Oniarah, Welfare Officer and Mr. Harrison Ogoh, Auditor.
