Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf has challenged the Radio Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Kaduna State branch to emulate the NUJ in ensuring professionalism in the journalism career.
He gave the charge on Wednesday at the Kaduna NUJ Secretariat, when Kaduna State RATTAWU executives paid a visit to commiserate with the council over invasion of thugs on July 31, which led to injury on journalists and loss of several valuables.
Comrade Yusuf stressed that in view of concerted efforts the NUJ was making to ensure that all journalists in the state are adhering to ethics of the profession, code of conduct would be displayed at the NUJ state secretariat, as well as in all the chapels.
He thanked RATTAWU for the visit, adding that the gesture was well appreciated, seeing that it was coming from a sister union.
The NUJ chairman said he was even more excited that the frosty relationship between the two unions was being laid to rest for a robust friendship.
Earlier in his remarks, Secretary RATTAWU Kaduna State, Comrade Bawa Abdullahi described the attack as unfortunate and uncalled for.
He said they were around to commiserate because an injury to one, is an injury to all.
He called on security agencies to wake up to their responsibility of securing lives and property, while adding that media men as mirrors of the society must always be protected.
