Hunger: Children In Delta Community Adopt Scavenging

Despite the Prosperity for all Deltans Campaign as championed by the
Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the condition of the
people are getting tougher by the day as hunger has turned children in
Oginibo Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area to food

AUTHENTIC News Daily gathered that some of the children in this trade are out of school.

Only a few of them still live with their parents, while most of them are orphaned or with single parents.

The children who barely eat a meal in their homes hurried and
struggled to grab plates of foods and drinks at the burial ceremony of
late Mrs. Victoria Apah, mother of the Leader of the Legislative Arm,
Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Sunny Apah.

The children even fought themselves because of a plates of food
dropped by guests even before they get to the ground while the ceremony
    was ongoing.

They ate the food even without meat and  package some in cellophane to take home for dinner with their loved ones.

The children monitor events in towns as well as establish their presence anywhere there is a function to provide instant food for themselves.

Their usual style is to stand in front or at the back of guests as they eat in
ceremonies with a mindset that the food in their (guests)hands be not
    completely consumed.

Authentic News Daily spoke to some of the children at the colorful event which held at Oginibo Secondary School and their stories were  pathetic.

One of the children involved his mucky trade is a thirteen year old boy, Phillip Victor who is out of school.

Victor said,“ My papa done die. My mama no well and I dey stay with my grandmother. No food for house na im make I come party come look for food.”

Another child, Oruese Junior whose father is a transporter is also out of school. He however ran away to avoid questions by Our Correspondent.

Goodluck Samuel, a ten year old child    disclosed that he dropped
out of school when he was in primary two because  his father is just a
petty trader while his mother idle and a full time house wife.

Samuel who spoke in pidgin English said,” No food for house and na im
make I come party come look for food.”

Authentic News Daily gathered that another major reason why the children became food scavengers apart from “hunger” is high unemployment amongst  their parent and the teeming youths in the community.

The people are so jobless that they can’t even boast of twenty naira
    at the break of dawn.
