The Zonal Representative North-West on the board of Nigeria Boxing Federation, Femi Olanrewaju Ayandibu has appealed to the state governments of his zone to make finances available to ensure the success of the many programmes they have lined up.
Ayandibu made the appeal in Kaduna, when he was a guest at the special novelty tournament organized in honour of the Vice President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria at the Exclusive Badminton Club.
“We have series of programmes lined up through out the North-West but we need cash backing to execute them. So far, the Kaduna State Government has motivated us on paper, but cash backing is holding us down,” he said.
He explained that their major focus is paying attention to grassroots sports development by targeting age grades of U-12, U-15 and U-17.
“Most boxers are ageing and we want to go back to the grassroots to catch them young. My main focus will be to ensure that coaches under my supervision keep a tab on the talents discovered,” he said.
Commenting on preparations for the National Youth Games, Ayandibu who is also the chairman of Kaduna State Boxing Association said that his boxers are ready, waiting for the state government to call them for camping.
