Wilfred Wins Jaji Ladies Open Golf Tournament


    Amina Wilfred from IBB Golf and Country Club after playing 163 gross over two days has emerged winner of the 5th Jaji Ladies Open Gold Tournament, which ended on Sunday night at the Jaji Golf Club.

    Runner-up gross went to  Tina Micah of Flamingo Golf Club who played 176.
    First runner-up gross went to Stella Kadiri also of IBB Golf Club with 183 gross while second runner-up gross was clinched by Vera David of Zaria Golf Club after playing 186 gross.
    Best Net was won by  Maryam Abdulsalam of Kaduna Golf Club with 150 nett, runner-up nett went to Lucy Monday of Zaria Golf Club with 152 nett, while N. Kar from Makurdi Golf Club settled for second runner-up nett with 153 nett.
    Speaking to newsmen after the presentation ceremony, President of the Female Golfers, Mrs. Zulu Omo-Ikerodah, said she was thrilled by the hospitality extended to her.
    “This is my first time in Jaji and honestly, I didn’t see what I expected. I am impressed by everything I have seen so far here. The course, the hospitality and the friendliness is unprecedented,” she said.
    When asked in what way government can help to improve further on the game, she said funding was a critical area the government can help to further grow the game.
    “Right now we are thinking of ways to bring in more ladies into playing the game,” she added.
    Also speaking, Ladies Captain of Jaji Golf Club, Rachael Danjuma said that the tournament was a huge success.
    She praised the sponsors for having faith in them and committing finances towards the successful hosting.
    The lady captain thanked the captain and vice captain of the club for working with the ladies hand-in-hand in ensuring its success.
    Over 20 states featured in the tournament, which attracted over 100 players.
