Uproar At NHIS Over Plans To Reward Minister’s Hit Men With Juicy Promotions

There is currently a silent uproar going on at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) over alleged plans by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole’s plans to promote his loyalists who he used in suspending the Executive Secretary, Professor Yusuf Usman Yusuf.

According to some staff of the scheme who wish to remain anonymous, a circular is already in circulation to that effect, which is causing ripples at NHIS.

“This  circular with reference No. FC6243/S1, Vol . XV111/5. which he called notional date implementation in the NHIS. Is nothing but  an avenue for the minister  to reward some staff of the NHIS including union leaders  with promotions they don’t deserve.

“He is rewarding them for their role in blackmailing professor Usman Yusuf. As a minister he lacks that power, notional date is the jurisdiction of head of service,” one of the sources said.

Speaking further, the source explained that this development is generating huge uproar in the scheme as majority of the staff see this as an avenue to further reward corruption by the minister and demoralize hardworking and committed staff who work daily to ensure that Nigerians have access to affordable and qualitative health care in line with the mandate of the NHIS.

It would be recalled that the NHIS has been in the news of recent,  especially as it relates to the role of the supervising Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole.

It can also be recalled that the suspended ES Professor Yusuf Usman Yusuf accused the minister of demanding huge sums of money from the agency and how his refusal to do this may have cost him his job.

What however ordinary observers do not know is that the fall of the former ES was done with the connivance of some staff of the NHIS who were used by the minister to blackmail the former ES.
