Kaduna’s e-Voting Machines To Arrive In Couple Of Days – Outgoing Commissioner

Within a couple of days, the electronic voting machines which will make Kaduna State have a date with history as the first in the entire West Africa sub region to embrace it, will arrive the state.

Outgoing Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) Commissioner of Finance, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli disclosed this while speaking at a valedictory meeting in his honour on Friday at the commission’s boardroom.
Bamalli, who was appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to Thailand said that with the amendment of the state’s electoral laws and an executive assent, Kaduna State would become a cynosure of all when it holds its local council polls.
“In a few days, our machines will arrive in Kaduna. Once the Assembly approves, we will hold the freest and fairest election ever in this part of the world. Though I won’t be here to physically see it, I will be monitoring it on the social media. I wish you the most beautiful election,” he said.
The outgoing commissioner recalled that when the board took over affairs about two years ago, there was nothing on ground for them to work with, but was proud that they were able to hit the ground running and today, the commission has been positioned for success.
“We came into this organisation at a difficult time. There was no money in the country but God has helped us to assemble many things. When we came, there were no vehicles, no computers, virtually nothing!
“But we have been able to get vehicles, computers and even went ahead to produce ballot papers, before the government of the day changed the trend by opting for electronic voting,” he stressed.
Bamalli advised his colleagues to never shy away from learning, emphasizing that it takes nothing from one to learn, but adds a whole lot.
“On the issue of learning, I was taught that the illiterate of the 21st Century is one who does not continue to increase knowledge through learning. I derive pleasure in imparting knowledge in people around me as well as learning from them. I was privileged to be in company of a formidable team at this commission,” he said.
