A Non Governmental Organization, Centre for Water and Development (CWED) on Monday, celebrated the world toilet day annually celebrated on the 19th November with pupils of LEA Primary School, Karji in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Speaking on the World Toilet Day celebration, the project Coordinator of CWED Doris Zakama said, ensuring proper use of toilet is important as it guides against contacting diseases among several other advantages.
“This is to prevent open defeacation amoung pupils, hence inculcating in them the importance of using toilet and washing hands with soap and water thereafter is quite significant”.
Also speaking in their goodwill messages, the Commissioner of Water Resources in the state, Suleiman Lere and Member representing Chikun constituency in Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honourable Mike Z. Yari commended the NGO for their effort particularly in the refurbishing of the school toilet to modern standards.
While the commissioner assured of ensuring that regular and clean water supply is made available to Kaduna citizens, the lawmaker assured of using his good office to attract projects to the area including building of more blocks of classrooms in the school.
On his part, the Village Head of Karji, Yusuf Ibrahim commended the NGO for choosing the school within his domain and urged the pupils and teachers to maintain and ensure proper use of the toilet.
Highlight of the program was quiz competition among the pupils on the importance of using toilet and washing hands after the use of toilet with water and soap.
Pupils who distinguished themselves on the chosen topic were given gifts as prizes with T-shirts branded world toilet day.
The refurbished toilet was commissioned by the Commissioner of Water Resources and handed over to the school management for use.
