Participants that attended the 2017 Kaduna Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Lecture have praised the association for choice of topic as well as choice of presenter.
Speaker after speaker at the Media Centre, Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, venue of the event on Saturday described it as a big move aimed at bringing back Nigeria’s dominance in international competitions.
Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, General Sani Saleh (rtd) said that the theme: ‘Grassroots Sports Development the way forward’ speaks volumes.
He stated that Nigeria can get it right only when it starts from the grassroots.
In his remarks, Patron of Kaduna SWAN, Engineer Musa Nimrod said that he was not disappointed by the lecture, in view of those its rich content which if taken seriously, would re engineer sports development in the country.
For Engineer Yusuf Best, he said that the lecture was apt and presented to sports administrators the missing links on how to produce world class beaters.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf hailed the paper presenter for doing justice to the topic.
He assured that journalists in the state would always promote development of grassroots sports through good reports and advocacy.
For the Games Director of Faith Academy Kaduna, Coach Felix Oseibe who spoke on the sidelines, the lecture would be a source of inspiration towards attaining greater heights.
“Faith Academy where I work has always given priority to grassroots sports development. It is what has made our athletes champions wherever they compete.
” It is also the driving force of the Coach Felix Academy. All our talents are discovered at the grassroots and groomed. From what we have learn at this lecture today, we would even soar higher,” he added.
The lecture was presented by Professor Farouk Rasheed, former Provost, College of Education Minna.
Professor Rasheed who as a Director of Sports, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, transformed the fortunes of sports in the institution was represented by Alhaji Sodangi as he was away to attend interview as candidate of vice chancellor at a top university in the country.
