Four Killed Over Renewed Cult Clash In Calabar

    At least four people have been killed in a renewed supremacy cult war in Calabar the Cross River State capital.

    The clash is said to be between two rival cult groups, Klansmen and Vikings.

    Reports say the klansmen on Friday evening, December 15, went to play a novelty football march in honour of one of their deceased  members at the popular Eyamba field along Bayside, Calabar South, the area is considered to be a stronghold of the vikings confraternity.

    An eye witness said in the course of the football march disagreement ensure between the two groups with sporadic gunshots heard around the area, causing residents to scamper for safety.

    Eye witnesses say one member of klansmen was shot dead while another sustained serious injuries.

    According to reports, about three people were again gunned down earlier Saturday around the Bayside axis of Calabar South.

    Residents in the area who spoke to our reporter said, people are already apprehensive as many live in fear over what may be the next action.

    Confirming the incident to AUTHENTIC News Daily on phone, Police spokesperson in the state, Irene Ugbo says the state command has already deployed their personnel to the area to maintain order. She said already some arrests have been made and effort is being made to make more arrest.

    “I can confirm to you that we are aware of the incident, as we speak, our men are already on ground to ensure peace is maintained and we implore law abiding citizens not to panic as the command is doing everything possible to ensure peace returns back and citizens can go about their businesses without fear” she said

    Ugbo said ” already arrest have been made and I assure you more arrest will be made” She however denied that four persons were killed, maintaining that so far she can only confirm the death of two persons.

    Calabar south has been engulfed with several cult wars lately.

    It would be recalled that the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade in an attempt to curb the recurrent cult wars, ordered the relocation of the headquarters of Operation Skolombo, the state government’s anti cultism security outfit to Calabar South, but despite the relocation, cult wars have continued to rage unabated in the area.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hafiz Inua have been confirmed as substantive commissioner of police. Mr. Inua have been in an acting capacity since assuming  office in the state.
