Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recorded 1,204 cases of both civil and criminal cases of arrest, decried high increase in crime wave, adding every market day in Jigawa was a robbery day.
Addressing a press conference at the Command’s premises in Dutse, he Commandant Muhammad Abdu Durumin Iya, stated the arrests occurred between January to the end of December last year.
Out of the number, 321 cases were criminal, while 883 were civil cases in nature.
The criminal cases include, theft, armed banditry, burglary, rape and its related offences.
Others are fraud, gross indecency, vandalism, conspiracy, gross misconduct, assault, illegal petroleum transactions, harbouring of illicit drugs, trespasses, arson, and breach of trust.
Durumin Iya further stated that out of the cases, 34 were transferred to relevant agencies for further interrogation, while 180 were convicted, and 107 are pending subject to the outcome of investigations.
On the 883 civil cases which are mainly family disputes, breach of contracts, recovered debts, land matters, farmers and herdsmen conflicts, inter personal disputes among others were settled amicably between the Command and the affected victims.
He announced that a total of N23, 225.816 Naira was recovered from the aforementioned disputes and has since been handed over to the respected lawful owners.
The Commandant commended Jigawa State Government over its support to the Command especially with the provision of combat materials worth millions of Naira donated by the state government, but decried poor funding, and lack of operational vehicles.
He also solicited for public co-operation to enhance the operational activities of the command in making Jigawa State a crime free state.
