Jigawa Assembly Member Calls For Speedy Passage Of Community Development Fund

    A member representing Yankwashi Constituency, Jigawa State House of Assembly, AbdulRahman Alkassim has stressed the need for the speedy passage of the proposed Community Development Fund 2018 Bill into law.

    Speaking on the issue shortly after the bill scaled second reading after a long heated debate among the members on Thursday.

    Abdulrahaman Yankwashi said, the bill when passed into law will facilitate for the smooth running of governance in the third tier of government which he described as closer to the electorates.

    It would be recalled, last week, the executive arm sent its request for the reintroduction of community development fund

    The fund is meant for each  polling unit in the state initiated by the administration of ex- governor Saminu Turaki.

    The Bill, if passed through, the existing polling units in the state will benefits certain amount of money on monthly basis for the execution of various local projects.

    The lawmaker recalled that, the monthly participatory polling unit funds has yielded positive impact to the lives of Jigawa people before it was eventually banned by former Governor Sule Lamido,

    citing examples with some physical projects executed with the fund across the local governments of the state.

    “The bill when approved into law will facililate as well as ease untold hardship been faced by some communities in minor repairs of existing structures such as boreholes, open wells, schools and mosques renovations in their areas without requesting their local government to do so”.

    He called on members to consider this request for the betterment and development of their constituencies and the electorates.

    “The burden on us will reduce as fund was set aside for the repairs of projects and execution of more projects, thereby enhance human development” he stressed.
