Hundreds of peaceful protesters from different groups angry over recent developments converged outside the Government House in Makurdi, demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari brings an end to the killings by alleged herdsmen in the state as well as the abduction of school girls in the North East.
Though they were prevented from approaching the Government House by security operatives, they held their grounds at the round about close to the government house from where they carried on their activities peacefully, while chanting ‘change the change 2019’.
Though there was no violent clash, another group was standing side-by-side with them, chanting ‘Said Baba’.
Another group was seen, calling on the President to consider signing into law the Peace Corps Bill as a way of strengthening security in the country.
Security operatives were seen pushing the protesters back, preventing them from inching closer to the gates of the Government House.
As at time of filing this report, there has been no official statement regarding what was discussed in President Buhari’s close to four hours meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom within the privacy of the Government House.
It would be recalled that Buhari has visited Taraba State to condole with the people, where he was quoted as saying, more deaths were recorded there than in Benue and Zamfara states, which have witnessed killings by gunmen of recent.
Only last Friday, a mass burial of victims of alleged herdsmen killings was suspended in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
