El-Rufai Backs Maiden Kaduna State Sports Festival, Revives School Sports – Commissioner

    Moved by his genuine love for sports and in his bid to developing talents from the grassroots, Governor Nasir el-Rufai is backing the hosting if the first ever Kaduna State Sports Festival.

    Commissioner of Youth Sports and Culture, Honourable Daniel Danauta dropped the hint while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the Engineer Yusuf Abubakar (Best) Kaduna Inter-Primary Schools Soccer Competition, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, earlier in the week.
    Though he failed to present more details, Danauta said that the sports festival would position the state to finish among the top states at the National Sports Festival later this year.
    He explained that besides the Kaduna State Sports Festival, the government would also bring back the school sports to its lost glory in 2018.
    “I want to put it to you that the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Nasir el-Rufai as part of his commitment and love for sports, has ensured support and is backing the return if school sports to the state this year,” he said.
    He stressed that the government wants to bring back Kaduna State’s dominant position as a melting point for sports in the country, a position lost due to policy abuse.
    “It is known that Kaduna was a melting point for sports, not just football, but other sports. Some things went wrong and Kaduna lost the glory. The wrongs are being made right and we are getting back again.
    ” The government is getting the policies right in ensuring that sportsmen and women achieve in the area of sports,” he added.
    He praised the sponsor of the inter primary school competition, Engineer Yusuf Best, while charging others to emulate the noble gesture.
    “We would like to thank our noble sons and daughters like Engineer Yusuf Best for making sure that they give back to society, especially in the area of sports.
    “My brother, my friend, I want to say thank you and I call on other public spirited individuals to borrow a leaf from Engineer Yusuf Best, to help make Kaduna great again, even in sports,” he added.
