Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has noted with disgust, the raid, earlier today, on the Chambers of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the subsequent seizure of the mace by hoodlums.

A statement signed by his spokesman, Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo said that whatever the motive(s), and whoever sponsored those thugs, the invasion must be seen and treated for what it is; a treasonable assault on, not only the legislative arm but the entire democratic architecture of the country.
“Senator Makarfi believes that the sanctity of the principles of separation of power and the independence of the legislative and judicial arms of government must be respected and upheld by all, especially institutions saddled with the responsibility of providing security and protection in the country,” it stated.
He appealed to those in authority at all levels to always resist the temptation to, directly or indirectly encourage the unleashing of instruments of state or thugs against individuals or institutions with dissenting perspectives or views.
“The Senator is of the opinion that a situation in which thugs could easily gain access into, not only the premises of the National Assembly but the hallowed chambers of the Senate, snatch and go away with he mace unmolested, despite the presence of various security agencies at the vicinity opens a wide window of suspicion of foul play that needs to be thoroughly investigated and culprits brought to book without any delay.
“Senator Makarfi commiserates and identifies with the Senate, the National Assembly and indeed the entire country over this callous rape of our democracy,” it concluded.
