Following repeated cases of killings in Benue and other parts of the country, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council has warned that if allowed to persist, could degenerate to a religious crisis, hence the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to overhaul the security apparatus in the country.
This was part of the communiqué issued at the end of a congress held at the council’s secretariat on Wednesday April 25, 3018, signed by the council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, made available on Thursday.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, rose from its meeting on April 25 2018 expressing deep concern over the spate of unwarranted killings across the country.
“The Union also expressed concern over the Security situation in the Country and urged the Federal Government to overhaul the Security apparatus in the country for the better,” it stated.
The congress noted the rampant killings in Benue State particularly, the incident at the Catholic Church in Ukpor- Mbalom Community and warned that such were clearly aimed at stoking up religious conflict in the country.
The Kaduna Council  commended the efforts of the Kaduna State Government in the provision of infrastructure in the state. It further noted the
remarkable improvement in the Education Sector and Road Projects.
However, the Union enjoined the State Government to ensure equitable distribution of such Projects across the whole State so as to douse the feelings of marginalization in some quarters.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists also frowned at the indiscriminate manner with which both Government and the private media organizations are laying off its members without due processes and warned that the Union will wade into such matter to protect it’s members.
Council strongly condemned the activities of some people who masquerade themselves as veteran journalists on facebook saying that they are not members of Nigeria Union of Journalist.
The meeting expressed it’s heartfelt condolences to it’s former Chairman, Mr. Andrew Fadason over the demise of his father, Mr. Aboki Fadason and pray God to grant him, family and relations the fortitude to bear the loss.
