Society Cannot Survive Without Media – el-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, Friday has said that the media is very important to the society.

He reiterated this during the official opening of the Correspondent’s Chapel office and launching of compendium of members at the secretariat of the Chapel in Kaduna.

He said that the importance of media to the society and socio- economic development of the country could not be over emphasized.

The Governor said the media is so important because it has the power to change society.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant  on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, he called on journalists to always abide by the ethics of the profession of balance and objective reporting.

The Governor said the call has become imperative so as to avoid misinforming the public.

His words, “The Media has the power to make or mar society, as such the power should not be abused.

“Journalists must learn to balance their stories and be objective in reporting”, he stressed.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council , Comrade Adamu Yusuf urged practitioners to always devote their time and energy to developmental reporting.

He also assured members of the support of the council towards the chapel.

” we will continue to support our members financially and morally to make sure that  journalism profession is free from quacks”,he said.

Also speaking S.A Media to former governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki commended the Chapel and called on journalists in the state to give balanced reporting to different political parties as the 2019 elections approaches.

He added that journalists who practice objective reporting were respected around the world and encouraged members to be persistent in their work.

A one minute silence was observed for the  S. A media to the Governor of Sokoto state Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, late Imam Dalhatu Imam who died in the early hours of Friday.

Late Imam who practiced for many years in Kaduna was also expected at the event before his demise.
