The Women Connect Initiative is committed towards ensuring that women rise up to the challenge and become dominant forces in whichever field they find themselves, changing the narratives that women are each others problem.
President of the initiative, Hajia Murjanatu Suleiman Shika expressed this on Saturday in Kaduna, while the group was presenting an award of recognition to CEO UMMHI Hones, Hajiya Umma Adamu Sani.
“We are bent on making women comfortable to impact on society. They say we are our problems, but we want to make sure we become our success.
“I always want to see struggling women make it in a male dominated world,” she said.
On the choice of Umma for the award, she said it was purely based on merit.
“We looked for someone to recognise and I was told about you. We swung into motion, asked questions and discovered you merit the award.
“We give so many awards to people. At the end of the day, we would have a grand finale. The bottom line is to celebrate women,” she disclosed.
She explained that the group was non religious and not limited to women of a any profession.
“No matter your background we try to associate with you. We engage in a lot of activities. We are in six states and we hope to reach more and create impact in those communities,” she added.
She explained that the group which started in 2002 and was officially launched in 2014 has made impact in the lives of many.
“In 2017, 32 girls and four boys were awarded scholarship by the Women Connect Initiative,” she said.
On how they raise funds to carry out their projects, she said that for now they tax themselves.
“We don’t get funding from government, we have women from all works of life, lawyers, doctors and others, we gather resources to execute our projects.
