Nigerian journalists have been advised not to allow themselves to be fooled again by politicians who used them during the 2015 elections, made them enemies after winning.

Senator representing Kaduna Central, Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani gave the advice in Abuja on Saturday, while presenting a lecture titled: ‘Good Governance and Nation Building, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Press Freedom Awards and Dinner, held at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers.
“Journalists should have conscience, they should always stand on the side if the people, because government comes and goes.
“There are people in position today that see the media as enemies after using you and dumping you.
“Before 2015, same media they saw as objective is now seen as sensational and partial.
“There is need for you this time not to be taken for a fool again. You should give fair hearing to everyone,” he charged.
He said that for those of them who tasted the bitter pills of oppression, they know what it is not to have press freedom.
“In the past when there was no social media, I know how we shared prison cells with many journalists who fought for democracy,” he said.
