One hour into the restriction of movement order handed out in ensuring the success of the local government elections in Kaduna State, commuters were seen moving freely on the highway.
The government had ordered that from 6am to 5pm on Saturday May 12, 2018, movement should be restricted, and mandated security agencies to maintain same.
On the Kachia Highway in Sabon Tasha, a densely populated area of the state, commuters were spotted plying the roads in private and commercial vehicles, with no one questioning them.
When AUTHENTIC News Daily approached one of them for comments on why the order was not being obeyed, he said he was not away of any order.
“Which order? Nobody has told me anything, I did not hear it,” he said, while refusing to tell this reporter his name.
Another who also pleaded anonymity while being questioned, said that she was heading to the polling centre.
“There is no polling centre close to my area. The only one we can reach is not a trekking distance, so I have to drive to get there,” she protested.
Meanwhile, voting is expected to commence less than an hour from now in the 255 wards, scattered across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The voting pattern is expected to be between the two major political parties; the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which is rooted in the Northern axis of the state and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that has the Southern part as its stronghold.
Kaduna will be making history by being the first in sub Sahara Africa and first sub national in the world to conduct election using the electronic voting machines.
