The main opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has once again showed that it is gearing up to reclaim power at the centre in 2019 after it trounced the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)  in the  Ibarapa Bye Election In Oyo State.
PDP candidate,  Hon Adebo Ogundoyin scored 6,213 votes to emerge  winner of the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday June 2, 2018 .
APC candidate,  Adeyemo polled 4,423, while third position went to Accord Party with  2,981 votes.
The bye election was held to fill in vacancy created by the death of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of  Assembly.

The voter apathy that greeted the election also suggests loss of faith in the ruling party.

14,332 people were accredited out of 44,077 total registered voters.

Total votes cast was 14,179 while valid votes were 13,871 and 308 votes were said to be invalid.

With this  result,  it is clear that the recent local council elections in Oyo state was a sham,  even as the PDP  had boycotted it over fears of massive rigging in favour of the ruling party.
When a Senatorial bye election was held in neighbouring Osun State,  PDP  also emerged winner.
With these recent results,  APC’s chances at gubernatorial polls in Ekiti and Osun are further slimmer.
These are indicators that the South West is rejecting the party and embracing PDP.
