Following the announcement that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged winner of the Local Government Councils Polls in the 2018 in Kaduna State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated that the election was truncated and the announced result trending on the media is fake.
This was expressed during a press briefing on Thursday in Chikun LGA, Kaduna by the PDP chairman of the area, Prince Jonah Musa.
“We woke up this morning to an appalling news that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their desperation to usurp the mandate of the people of Chikun LGA had gone ahead to announce election results in their favour. Hence, the reason for calling on you to state our position as follows.
“That there was no election in Kujama, Kakau, Chikun and Nasarawa wards as it was rescheduled for yesterday 6th June, ” the chairman said.
He explained that prior to the announcement of the results by APC thugs, their party won all the wards in the Chairmanship Polls held on May 12.
He explained that the party faithful are looking forward to a new date for the four wards, which were not held on June 6.
“We were winning the 12 wards before the four that were cancelled and rescheduled were announced, ” he said.
He explained that APC lawmakers were intercepted by some vigilant electorate who before then were informed that they had planned to divert election materials.
On the strength of their argument, he said that on 12th May when elections were first held, everybody was aware that seven wards declared were won by PDP who got over 24,000 votes and APC got about 13,000.
“We were surprised that later, eight wards were declared and in the interest of peace after going to SIECOM to inquire, we accepted it, ” he said.
On their claims that elections were not held and the alleged diversion of materials, he said that their youth got a wind of what was to come and we’re prepared.
” Some of our dynamic Youth were at the Chikun Local Government Secretariat from 1 am on 6th June and we’re there till evening and no SIECOM official was there.
“Elections did not hold in the four wards, Kujama, Kakau, Nasarawa and Chikun Wards where election was to hold.
“The youth were vigilant and apprehended APC lawmakers with sensitive materials they were not supposed to be with.
“The first person was the member representing Chikun in the State Assembly, Hon. Marcus Yari and the other was Hon. Mamadi of the House of Representatives representing Igabi Federal Constituency, what brought him to Chikun.
“We apprehended them with SIECOM result sheets and by God’s grace they were not able to escape with the materials which were found on them in their tinted vehicles.
“As such, the announcement of results by an alleged returning officer is part of APC shenanigans, ” he submitted.
