Dr. Thomas Ikubesesays has said that June 12 was indeed a watershed in the annals of Nigeria’s political history, like no other.
Dr. Ikubese who is a presidential aspirant under the platform of Alliance for New Nigeria in a release applauded the move by President Mohammadu Buhari to confer the highest national honour on the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, but however warned that Conferring a posthumous GCFR Award on MKO Abiola and GCON on Chief Gani Fawehinmi will amount to nothing if the principles for which they lived and died were not reflected in the life of the present administration and the conduct of the 2019 Presidential election.
The presidential aspirant warned that playing politics with the efforts of such great heroes of democracy is dangerous.
He acknowledged that June 12 was indeed a watershed in the annals of Nigerian’s political history, like no other, maintaining that It was the day Nigerians spoke in one voice, devoid of geography, tribe or religion.

“Now that President Buhari has reverted Nigeria’s Democracy Day from May 29th to June 12th, I pray he allows the indices of “free and fair” that characterised the June 12 Presidential election to come into play in handling national issues, appointments and elections, especially in the coming 2019 Presidential election

“They are no longer here to receive these medals, but their spirit will gladden in the land beyond, if the course for which they lived and died is interred not with them”
