Police Allegedly Gun Down Human Rights Activist

    An exclusive report reaching the news desk of AUTHENTIC NEWS DAILY  is that the Policemen in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State at about9pm at the front of Church of God Mission(Praise Centre) along Jakpa road on Monday night allegedly shot and killed a member of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights,CDHR, Delta State Branch simply identified as Christian.
    It was learnt that the police allegedly deposited victim’s corpse at the Warri Central Hospital Morgue with a stern warning to the morticians not to disclose their identities.
    Thereafter, the Policemen led by one Sergeant Wilson alleged that the deceased was an armed robber who opened fire at them.
    AUTHENTIC NEWS DAILY  however gathered that the deceased was inside his  Black Toyota Solara car parked(One door) at near the Church when the dastard incident occurred.
    The Delta State CDHR Chairman, Comrade Prince Kehinde-Taiga in a chat with DAILY POST confirmed the report stressing that,”The Police deliberately killed the young man”.
    Taiga noted that the Police in Ovwian also shot one of his members two weeks adding that, “Three days ago, the Police also threatened to kill our women leader.”
    Taiga pointed out the CDHR is still on an independent investigation saying that,”The law must have its cause. Whoever that is involved the act must face the music.”
    Taiga also called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police,CP Muhammad Mustafa to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure justice is done.
    CDHR Assistant Secretary, Comrade Israel Joe wept profusely when Our Warri,Delta State Correspondent sought his views on the matter.
    He did not only corroborated the claims of the CDHR Chairman, he exclaimed”Them don kill my friend.”
    Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer,DSP Andrew Aniamaka said the allegations cannot be true noting that,”Police don’t kill human rights activists. “
    DSP Aniamaka explained that,”We need them in our work. We are in the best of terms with the people.
    “I will find out and get back to you. The police job is saving lives, protecting properties and ensuring that the rights of the people are maintained.”
    DSP Aniamaka called back to say it was armed robbery case.
    According to him,”There were four armed men in a car. Immediately they saw the police, they opened. In the gun duel, three of the young men escaped and one was gunned down. A locally made cut to size gun was recovered with two live cartridges. “
