National Youth Games: Team Kaduna Jubilates As Male, Female Hockey Teams Claim Gold Medals

    It was celebration at the camp of team Kaduna at the ongoing National Youth Games as they claimed both male and female gold medals in the hockey event.

    Oyo won silver in the boys category, while Abia claimed bronze.
    In the female category, Delta picked silver and Benue picked bronze.
    In the round robbin fixture, they all played four matches each, with Kaduna male team winning its four matches claiming  twelve maximum points.
    Oyo State and Abia won two matches each, but Oyo had superior goal advantages after both got six points each.
    In the female category, Kaduna ladies secured the 12 maximum points after winning their four matches.
    Delta got nine points from three matches, while Benue won one game and  secured four points to place third.
    Director of Sports Kaduna, State, Yakubu Ibrahim said that they were happy with the win Kaduna.
    Ibrahim said that Kaduna State is at the forefront of Hockey in Nigeria and as such they are not.
    “We are grateful to God and our supporters. We appreciate the skills exhibited by the players.
    “We assure Kaduna Government and people that we would bring in more medals this year.
    “We thank the press for support and motivating the players. We appreciate everybody.
    “Before the games end, we look forward to more medals haul,” he submitted.
    In an interview with newsmen, captain of Kaduna hockey team, Dennis Solomon said that they are happy to win.
    “It was not by our might but by prayers, we thank God for everything. We have energy and speed and endurance.
    ” Next plan is preparing for the festival, where I believe I will make the team,” he said.
