A group, Progressive Consolidated Network, (PCN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to beef up internal democracy in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party to stand as a formidable party that can challenge and defeat any opposition in any election.
PCN said that the wrangling arising from the party primaries across the country calls for caution.
The group particularly called on the president to take a second look at the scenario that played out at the Kano Municipal Area Council APC primaries and order the organising committee to reverse the result of the primaries.
A statement from the chairman of PCN, Barrister Sadiq Bichi made available to newsmen urged President Muhammadu Buhari to maintain the change slogan of the party that gave it victory in 2015 especially as another election was by the corner.
Bichi said that the way things are going in the APC where some so called party leaders and governors handpick candidates for the party calls for worry.
He added that the popularity of the party in some northern states is waning daily when election is fast approaching.
He particularly said that the party has not really recovered from the imbroglio in some states primaries and cannot stand to add Kano State that is so important to the party.
Bichi further said that vibrant and grassroots politicians are the people that help political parties to win elections and therefore advised that it is only when the people’s will is respected with emergence of authentic candidates that victory is assured.
He reminded the president and the APC that the uncertainty hovering over the party in Zamfara State needs urgent attention, and warned that to allow the party to be in crisis in another state of the party’s strongholds may not augur well for the party.
The PCN chairman also said that they the APC foot soldiers are working daily for the success of the party in the forthcoming elections, therefore to allow crisis everywhere, God forbids, may spell doom.
He also said that the result that PCN gathered from the Kano Municipal primaries is as follows: Muktar Ishaq Yakasai-58,082, followed by Hadiza AA Ibrahim-2,907, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada-2,806 and Abdulrashid Hamisu Kofar-Mata with 692 and wondered why the name of the winner of the primary was not forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s flag bearer but was substituted.
Bichi said that in accordance with the electoral act, S. 87(4) (c) of the Electoral Act should be what is submitted to INEC from the Kano Municipal primaries as any contravention shall be against the law.
He enjoined all APC leaders and supporters to stand up for justice and march in oneness to the 2019 election.
