A soldier on Thursday rescued a twenty years old suspected phone thief, Moses Erhiga from being set ablaze by an angry mob after he was alleged to have stolen a mobile phone from a passenger in a commercial tricycle at 3rd Marine Gate near Enerhen Junction in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, AUTHENTIC News Daily gathered
Erhiga and one other had allegedly attacked a passenger in a commercial tricycle with dangerous weapons and dispossessed him of his mobile phone.
However, luck ran out of the suspects as the passenger raised alarm which attracted the angry mob who quickly gave the suspected criminals a hot chase and apprehended Erhiga.
The angry mob had already donated tyres, fuel, matches with which they would set Erhiga ablaze when the soldier clad in mufti entered the scene of the incident to save the situation.
The soldier who refused to disclose his name after flashing his identity card dragged Erhiga to Eku House by Enerhen Junction where he and his colleagues drilled him (Erhiga).
In a chat with our correspondent, Erhiga said he stole because he does not have a job. “I thief because I no get work”
Erhiga who would have been set ablaze said he does not know where his accomplice stays in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
However, the Soldiers at Eku House later handed Erhiga to the Police “B” Division in Warri after serious drilling.
