The neglect of the rural areas by those residing in the cities is regrettable, wicked  and uncalled for.
President Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engineer Adekunle Mokuolu ((FNSE) expressed this while speaking on Saturday at the commissioning of electricity in Juji Community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State
He explained that when he took over as President, he made it a point of duty to start accelerated development of rural areas in the country.
He said they are most neglected and are not looked after, yet they look after those in the city through supplies of farm produce.
“Even roads to bring the farm produce to us, we don’t provide for them, sometimes they have to trek distances to bring the food to us in the cities,” he said.
Engineer Mokuolu commended the Kaduna branch of the NSE for sponsoring the electrification project.
“I thank the Kaduna branch of NSE for a great job done, especially the project execution team. Most times the money for projects are given by government but they are not done but we thank God this one has been done by our Engineers,” he said.
Commenting on the deplorable condition of the primary school in Juji Community, where the commissioning ceremony took place, he said it was unfortunate that the primary school which is the foundation of education is neglected.
“Primary school is the foundation and their classrooms should be better than those of universities and secondary schools. They deserve the best facilities,” he said.
Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Architect Hadiza el-Rufai said that she has never witnessed such intervention in any community.
She thanked NSE on behalf of the Kaduna State Government for bringing the project to Juji Community.
She congratulated NSE on its anniversary, while charging members of the Juji Community to protect it from vandalization.
Represented by Mrs. Ruth Alkali, Kaduna State  Commissioner of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, she apologized for not being physically present, attributing her absence to other government functions she was attending to.
