A hit and run vehicle on Sunday knocked dead an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) along the ever busy Osubi/Abraka by Orerokpe Community Junction in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, AUTHENTIC News Daily reports.

It was learnt that the SARS Operative whose identity is yet to be disclosed was with his colleagues on routine stop and search when the dastard incident occurred.

AUTHENTIC News Daily gathered that the SARS Operative who was at the middle of the road flagged down the driver of a Toyota Camry who was on a very high speed.

Instaed of stopping for search, the driver immediately increased his speed and drove towards the direction of the SARS Operative.

Sensing danger, the SARS Operative tried to take refuge at the corner of the road but the driver of the car veered off the road and knocked him (SARS) and zoomed off the scene of the incident.

Instead of the SARS Operative to rush their colleague to the hospital on time, they were  helpless because their Hilux van could not even overtake a commercial tricycle. In fact, they were busy searching for their colleague’s service rifle which they later saw at the side of the bush.

At the time of filing this report, the SARS Operative was bleeding profusely as he had lost his two legs, spine and hands completely to the unfortunate incident.

The incident caused serious vehicular traffic along the ever busy expressway.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity with our correspondent said the driver of the vehicle may be one of the suspected ‘Yahoo Boys’ who are resident in Orerokpe Community.

According to the eyewitness, “The driver maybe carrying something suspicious and he does not want to be arrested with it.”

Contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa said the SARS Operatives in Orerokpe have arrested some hoodlums who were coming from an alleged criminal operation while some others abandoned their vehicle and scamp for safety.

Asked if he was told that any of the SARS Operative was knocked down by a hit and run vehicle, CP Mustafa said,” They didn’t tell me that. All I know is that the police in Orerokpe are still investigating those arrested and I assure you, when that is done the public will know.”
