By KATO P. LADAN, Kaduna
The political landscape of Kaduna Central Senatorial District took an intriguing dimension as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate, Mr Lawal Adamu formally launched his campaign bid on Monday December 10, 2018 at his campaign office in Malali Kaduna, with thousands of supporters and dignitaries in attendance.
The flagging off campaign of Lawal Adamu popularly known as Mr. LA took off on a brighter note as key PDP politicians from all over the state and country attended the event.
Some notable dignitaries spotted were the PDP governorship candidate for the state, Hon Ashiru Mohammed Yusuf Kudan, PDP state Chairman, Mr Felix Hassan Hyet, Alhaji Shehu Giant, Local Government party chairman, youth leaders and women leaders from all over the state.
Addressing his supporters, Mr LA promised that he would attract huge and viable beneficial projects to the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in particular and to the state in general.
He also disclosed that he and his team have mapped strategic areas such as youths development, women empowerment, mechanized agriculture and sports which would feature prominently in his project as Senator.
He further added that, he intends to bring down the high rate of kidnapping, robbery and other forms of vices by generating employment opportunities for the youths in his zone.
As for maternal and child mortality rate, the PDP Senatorial candidate unveiled his plans to bring down the high infant and maternal mortality rate by making sure more primary health centres are built and ensuring that pregnant women, children and the aged have access to free drugs.
The PDP Governorship candidate of the state, Hon Ashiru Mohammed Yusuf Kudan who lauded the vision of Mr LA, urged the people of the zone to turn out enmass and vote Lawal Adamu as the next Senator.
He added that the PDP in Kaduna and indeed the nation is set to form the next administration and bring succour to the land.
As Ashiru was speaking, chants of “Nigeria sai Atiku, Kaduna sai Ashiru and Kaduna Central sai Mr. LA” rented the air for over 20 minutes and it took the combined efforts of the security personnel and the persuasion of speakers to persuade the crowd to calm down.
Those who spoke to our correspondent were of the view that Mr Lawal’s formal entry into the race has completely upturned what seemed to be a two-way horserace between Senator Shehu Sani of the Peoples Redemption Party, (PRP), and Uba Sani of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
They stressed that the electorates would faced with three choices; PDP, PRP and APC.
One of those who spoke, who introduced herself as Aisha Muazu said that among the candidates of the three parties, Lawal is unarguably the youngest, a factor which would appeals to the youths who form the majority of the electorates .
“Furthermore, with the resurgence of PDP in Kaduna and the rancour between Shehu Sani and Uba Sani of the PRP and APC, Lawal would be the ultimate beneficiary in the contest,” she added.
Another of Mr. LA supporter, Paul Bitrus was of the view that both Senator Shehu Sani and Uba Sani are seen as old faces in the polity and a relatively new person in form of Mr. LA would have a lot of appeal to the voters.
It was observed that with the crowd witnessed during Mr LA ‘s campaign Flag off, it is could be safe to assume that the PDP candidate is a credible force to be reckoned with come 2019 and one may just be looking at the next Senator for Kaduna Central Senatorial District. However, that would be at the discretion of the electorates.
