2019 Elections: 6 Suspects Arrested Over Killings In Delta Community



    The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the recent killings as well as the criminal activities during the clash between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, AUTHENTIC News Daily  reports.

    The arrested suspects include, Friday Okito, Billy Adoye, Joshua Amakachi, Promise Okia, Godstime Blessing and Precious Chidi.

    The suspects were arrested by Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Ekpan in Ekpan Divisional Headquarters on Wednesday.

    Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka in a telephone chat confirmed the arrests of the six suspects.DSP said,”No doubt, six suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings in Uvwie. 

    “They’ve been transferred to the State CID and discrete investigation is being carried out.”

    In a chat with newsmen after the arrests were made, the Uvwie Council Chairman, Hon. Ramson Onoyake apologized to Uvwie residents over threats to their lives stressing that they have been disorganized by the fighting that has lasted for several days between youths in the Council Area.

    “I want to assure residents that everything is now under control. Police officers have swung into action and as you can see, there are military men stationed at various points in the town to prevent a further perpetuation of crime and criminality.

    “We now have the names of some key actors in the killings though I would not want to mention their names now, but we will try to see how we can track those persons with the security agents and make them face the law.”

    Hon. Onoyake stated that he was informed about the brutal murders of four youths and a lady two days ago. He noted that the the incident angered him and made him step out to see how he can motivate and support the police to arrest those involved.

    “This time around we will get them. The law must take its course. “

    Hon. Onoyake called on the residents to go about their businesses without fear of being attacked by anyone.

    On the forthcoming elections, Hon. Onoyake said, “Security Operatives are the ones that will advice on what should happen in such a situation as this. 

    “I still want to believe that if in the next few hours peace is restored then elections will hold. But, I am sure that they are capable with what I saw. I went round with hem and did not go to the office today at all.

    ”The Uvwie Council boss blamed the crisis on some persons whom he said are looking for recognition sice elections are close.

    “This is election period and they want to capitalize on this and try to seek attention. But, some hoodlums always hijack it.”
