A senior reporter reporting for Nagarta Radio Kaduna, Mr Aliyu Musa Gombe has called on the Military to as a matter of urgency investigate and prosecute of one military personnel over threat to his life during the course of performing constitutional duty during the Presidential election on Saturday at NNDC in Kaduna.
According to Gombe, the military officer while mounting road block on Saturday, one of the military officers became hostile on stopping him and told him that he will shoot him and nothing will happen, boasting that they have been given the authority to do so saying killing him is nothing, while shouting at the top of his voice with confidence.
In his words, “It was God that saved my life as the military officer became hostile was approaching me with gun, telling me he is going to kill me for going out to cover elections seeing me in INEC authorised jacket, my ID card and media tag, he went on with his threat even when I was still making efforts to go further in identifying myself as a journalist.
”I call on the military authority to investigate and prosecute the officer in line with fire arms act as so many innocent Nigerians have also lost their lives to over zealous security personal who feel carrying arms is a license to kill anybody that comes their way. I am saying because another election is around the conner and my colleagues will also be expected to cover the elections.
“I am alive to today to tell my story what about if any while carrying out his duty is shot by this kind of over zealous officer as the electoral act does not permit the military to go close to polling units as experienced in Kaduna.”
The Nagarta radio reporter said it took the intervention of one of his colleagues to calm the situation.
It would be recalled that just last week, a Customs officer allegedly shot a man dead while arguing over five thousand Naira.
