Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari of Zamfara State on Monday presented a budget of N135.3 billion for the year 2019.
Presenting the budget to the members of the state assembly, Yari said N62.7 billion was earmarked for the recurrent expenditure.
He further said the sum of N72.6 billion would be for capital expenditure.
According to him, the state government intends to consolidate its initiatives on cost efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of government’s fiscal operations.
“We intend to Improved internal revenue generation to reduce overdependence on federal allocations and short-term loans, creating sustainable development in
urban and rural areas through the
construction of access road networks”, he added.
Yari however expressed optimism that, the incoming administration would continue with the programmes and policies of the present administration.
According to him, the 2019 budget has detailed plans on the improvement of secondary and tertiary education,.
The governor further revealed that, in an effort to boost healthcare services and facilities, necessary funds has been earmarked for the sector.
” The government is determine to provide potable drinking water to end water related diseases in the rural areas”, he added.
Governor Yari however, told the lawmakers that, the state owned university Talata Mafara would commence academic activities this year.
“We have secured all approvals from various agencies for the state university to take off this, very soon management team for the university would be put in place”, he added.
He appealed to the lawmakers to look at the budget with urgency and approve it for the overall development of the state.
Speaker of the Assembly, Hon, Sanusi Garba Rikiji lauded the cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature.
He said the performance of the Yari led government within the last eight years as commendable, especially, in the area of roads construction.
