Kano state government has donated sports kits worth millions of Naira to over 120 football clubs in Nassarawa local government area, as part of the Ganduje administration’s sports development initiative.
A statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity,Government House, Kano, Ameen K. Yassar said that the donation comprised footballs, sets of jerseys, training kits, assorted sports materials and cash.
One of the clubs Waliyya FC, got N150, 000, five other teams got N120, 000 each, three clubs got N60, 000 each while the rest were given N17, 000 each, to pay registration fees, for their respective league categories.
Speaking during the occasion held at Gwagwarwa Mini stadium, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje explained that his administration decided to invest in sports because of the fact that it contributes to the social and personal development of youth.
“Sport is very important because it provides benefits for socio-emotional development and moral development, including the expression of values and sportsmanship behaviors”.
“Apart from concentrating on sports, this government as you know is also spending a lot of money on empowerment programmes for the youth. This is aimed at developing their capacity for self reliance and participation in civic activities, since they are the leaders of tomorrow”.
Dr. Ganduje therefore, emphasized that his administration focuses on the youth because they are the backbone of the society, pointing out that the government would remain youth-friendly and encourage them to take active part in moving the state forward.
The governor urged the football clubs that benefitted from the government’s support to make best use of the donation and to strive for excellence, so that they can win accolades for their communities and the state in general.
