Zamfara Drills 1,000 Water Points

    Zamfara Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN) is collaborating with the state government to ensure even provision of potable drinking water to rural areas, as 984 water points were constructed.

    Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Idris Keta who disclosed this at Water Day commomeration in Gusau, Zamfara state capital said 781 were new hand pump boreholes.

    He further said that, 23 solar motorised boreholes and a new contract of 33 additional hand pumps was awarded recently.

    Keta also said 260 litrines were constructed and new 88 VIP litrines were under construction across the state.

    The commissioner who was represented by his permanent secretary, Sani Abdullahi said government had released the sum of fifty million naira part of the four hundred million requested.

    In his speech, RUWATSAN programme manager, Sani Yaro Gurbin Bore appealed to the state government to show more commitments in the UNICEF and WASH programmes in the area of water supply and sanitation.

    Gurbin Bore said already awareness campaign has been on in rural areas and other stakeholders on the need for the supply of safe drinkin
    g water.

    “We are doing here today, state, LGA and community can go along way to increasing awareness, increasing investment, increasing access and even improving the living conditions of those who work to ensure sustained supply of water”, he added.

    He appealed to the stakeholders to demonstrate more commitments to the water supply and sanitation, especially in the rural areas.
